Movie Review: Deadpool
written on Sunday, 28 February 2016 @ 03:46 ✈
First of all, this movie is not suitable for kids (parents, please take note). It's loaded with violence, and it's got over-the-top obscenity. It's an R-rated movie so you know what I mean.
Wade Wilson is a former Special Force soldier, who acquires self-regenerating powers and a horribly disfigured face after succumbing to some back-alley treatment for late-stage cancer. You know from the start that this will be a different kind of movie. Just look how they do the opening credits. Instead of displaying the real names, we get titles like "British villain", "some hot chick", "the real heroes here" which refers to the screenwriters, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is, according to Ryan Reynolds, "super, but no hero." He's a bad guy who kills worse guys, a mercenary assassin with a smart mouth. One thing that I'm sure of is, this movie is far from dull. Its sense of humour is sadistic and silly. You also probably need a working knowledge of the superhero-movie industry itself, such as X-men Origins and Green Lantern, which both Ryan was in, to decode a couple of inside jokes blended in this movie. Not to mention, Deadpool is aware of his fictional status, the camera's presence, and regularly chats to the audience while in the action. Something almost similar to Jim Carrey in The Mask.
The story is simple. Wade Wilson's (Ryan Reynolds) one true purpose is to seek revenge from Francis a.k.a Ajax (Ed Skrein) who was responsible for the treatment that allegedly to treat his cancer but instead, leaves him immortal but hideously deformed. He became ever more determined to find and kill Ajax when he and and his buffed-up sidekick Angel Dust kidnapped his girl, Vanessa. While he's at it, he reluctantly get the help of Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead from X-Men. If there is a flaw in this movie, it's that the non-stop jokes are exhausting. I actually meant that in a good way though because of course, this is by design.
Ryan Reynolds is perfectly cast as Deadpool. I wouldn't want anyone else to play that role. I laughed for its hilariousness and winced at its butchering and brutality. It's so funny that I suddenly burst to laugh when I remember some of the funny scenes. Despite the extreme violence and obscenity, Deadpool is very much entertaining.
*Okay, now I know how he gets the name 'Deadpool'.*
P/s: To my loyal reader, Nash, I wish you all the best with your new job and for success in everything that you do. And thank you for not throwing me out of the window for being annoying, although you're clearly capable of doing that. Haha!

Hi! So there's nothing much going to be around here. I read a lot. I read almost everything that has print on it. Everything from flowery romance to pretentious fiction to poetry. If you came here to stalk on my activities, then you've came to the wrong place. There's a special place for that but I'm not gonna speak of it here. Here is the place where I rant about books (mostly), musics, tv shows, movies, foods, and my personal opinion about all kind of stuff which I would like to share. I don't really share in real life, especially food. But I'll make this an exception (i'll share the pictures of food). So if you don't mind reading my rambles, fair warning; you may not be able to understand a single word I'm going to say because of my overflowing emotions. But just take the chance anyways. Oh this isn't a diary, just so you know.
