DIY: Personalized Tote Bag
written on Tuesday, 28 October 2014 @ 04:17 ✈
Hello awesome nerds. Here is a simple DIY personalized tote bag tutorial. It's very easy and applicable to t-shirts as well. For now, let's just start with a simple tote bag and design it with the decoration that you like.
The items you'll need:
- Plain tote bag
- Fabric paint
- Adhesive paper
- Sponge brush
- Sellotape
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Your design
1. The first thing you need is a design. You may design your own or simply get a free design from the Internet (like the one I'm using for this tutorial). Print out your design. Make sure you use simple image because you're going to cut it out later.
2. Take your adhesive paper and place it on your design. The adhesive paper is slightly transparent so you can see your design through it. Make sure the transparent side of the paper is at the bottom. So if you use text design, you might want to flip the text to get mirrored image first before you print it out.
Use sellotape to attached both papers together.
3. Trace your design using a pencil on the adhesive paper.
So in the end you might get something like this:
4. Carefully, use the craft knife to cut out your design. Take your time with this step and use very sharp knife for optimal result.
5. Take your plain tote bag and a large book (you may use some old magazine or cardboard). Insert the book inside your tote bag. This is to avoid the paint from bleeding through the other side.
Fold the bag nicely until it looks something like this:
6. Place the design wherever you want on your tote bag. For my case, I placed it right in the middle. Now make sure the transparent side is facing up.
7. Slowly peel off the adhesive paper and gently smooth it into place. Using a card, press firmly onto your design to make sure it is attached to the bag nice and secure.
8. Take your fabric paint. For this tutorial, I used the black color only.
Paint nicely onto your design using a sponge brush. After you finish, you might want to let it dry for a few minutes before you do the second coat. Apply the paint thinly for the second coat and the part that didn't get the paint on during the first coat. This is to ensure the color sticks nicely and evenly.
Then just leave it for around 30 minutes.
9. Slowly peel the transparent paper away.
Don't forget about the tiny details.
10. After that, you might get something like this:
And there you go, your own personalized tote bag! You can take it to your class or when hanging out with your friends. Create and express yourself!
*Tutorial, experience and opinion is my own.

about
“I have a deeply hidden and inarticulate desire for something beyond the daily life.”
- Virginia Woolf
Name : Syafiqah
Age : 25
Hometown : Kajang, Selangor
Current city : Kuala Lumpur
Interests : Books, food, music, collecting memories, clever humor, arts, mysteries.
Hi! So there's nothing much going to be around here. I read a lot. I read almost everything that has print on it. Everything from flowery romance to pretentious fiction to poetry. If you came here to stalk on my activities, then you've came to the wrong place. There's a special place for that but I'm not gonna speak of it here. Here is the place where I rant about books (mostly), musics, tv shows, movies, foods, and my personal opinion about all kind of stuff which I would like to share. I don't really share in real life, especially food. But I'll make this an exception (i'll share the pictures of food). So if you don't mind reading my rambles, fair warning; you may not be able to understand a single word I'm going to say because of my overflowing emotions. But just take the chance anyways. Oh this isn't a diary, just so you know.
