TV Series: Daredevil

I love that picture of him in the poster. He looks like 'Hey, I may be blind but I can also kick your ass.' That smirk on his face is priceless.

I have nothing but praise for this show. A lawyer by day, a vigilante by night. Matt Murdock is not your typical superhero. He shares very little in common with Captain America or Superman. He doesn't have any superpower or money like Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark to buy them. After being blinded at the age of 9, he started developing super-enhanced senses. He can listen to people whispering from across the room. He can read text by feeling the imprint left by ink on a page. He can also know if a person is lying by listening to their heartbeat. Master in various martial arts and with the help of his super-senses, he used his skills to protect his city.

The down side of being Daredevil? His body isn't bulletproof. Cut him and he bleeds. His bruises don't heal overnight. Without his skills, he's just as weak as we all are. I honestly feared for Matt's life in some scenarios, although his death is near impossible when making a superhero tv show or movie. But that's what I really like about Daredevil. Despite being a superhero, he is a very vulnerable man. He is aware of that but that doesn't stop him from diving into the darkness of Hell's Kitchen and fight the evil lurking in it. Other than that, I also find the spiritual elements in this show quite interesting. Being a lawyer who sometimes bringing justice by breaking laws, Matt Murdock also battles with his own darkness as we can see in the first episode when he told the priest, "I'm not seeking penance for what I've done, Father. I'm asking forgiveness for what I'm about to do." There's an episode where he tells his friend, Foggy, that he actually enjoys beating people up. Well, his father was a boxer, maybe it's in the blood. He told Foggy about how every night he heard a girl screaming because she was sexually harassed by her father and that night he beat the man up because he's had enough. He never slept better ever since. To me, I think he is one of the most, or maybe the most religious character in Marvel universe. His religiousness is a part of him and his conflict.

Unlike other Marvel movies that are made to be fun, this show is much more gritty and dark. And I love how mature it is compare to those movies. The plot is compelling and exceedingly engaging. It takes place in post Avengers New York and I like how this show naturally fits in the world already created. And can we take a moment to talk about how great Charlie Cox is on Daredevil? He brings just the perfect amount of charm and humor to the role. When he's being Daredevil, he shows us his barely restrained rage and a healthy dose of Catholic guilt. Other characters could not have been cast better with Jon Berthal as Frank Castle aka the Punisher, and Elodie Yung as Elektra.

All and all, this show is a hit. I have never batted an eye to Daredevil before until I watched this. I recommend this to those who want some good action especially comic-book-superhero-movie fans, even those who need everything to be rainbows and butterflies, watch this just to see how good something can be without all that. I already watch Season 1 and 2, and patiently waiting for Season 3. Hopefully it'll be just as good if not better.

I am in love with the opening theme. Never skipped this part lol
