Book Review : The Mortal Instruments, City of Ashes (Book Two)

             Title : City of Ashes
             Series : The Mortal Instruments
             Author : Cassandra Clare
Publisher : Margaret K. McElderry Books
             Date Published : March 25, 2008

Description from Goodreads: Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I just adore this book. The second book truly had much more action in it which is good. I love how the plot goes. And the jokes, oh that's what kept me reading to the end of it. The more I read it, the more I feel like I'm in their world. But I couldn't quiet picture how Idris looks like. I know the book said it's a beautiful place, but maybe it didn't tell me enough. Also I can see that Jace was slowly turning into a soft person? Haha I can deal with that. And Simon, wow, I didn't see that coming. What's the author planned for him? I hope there will be a good explanation for that.

The storyline gets better and far more structured than the first book. I'm starting to understand what kind of person Valentine is. Also, I just love Clary's new power. She actually surpasses Jace's fighting skills/powers. As always, I enjoyed the fight with demons as well.

About Jace and Clary, this is what really bugged me, why didn't they just do a DNA test? Why did no one in the book think of that? It'll be so much easier to know who's who. Sometimes it annoys me. How could an author write a book where the love story is between a brother and a sister? To make it sound like some kind of forbidden love? It's not like they know each other long enough that it's hard to switch off that feeling. Well, just saying. I actually know who they are to each other so...I'll keep it at that.
