Book Review : The Witch Avenue Series, Lonely Souls
written on Sunday, 21 April 2013 @ 03:40 ✈
Title : Lonely Souls
Series : The Witch Avenue Series
Author : Karice Bolton
Publisher : Bulldog Press
Published Date : June 29, 2012
Description from Goodreads : It’s two weeks before Triss turns 18, and her world is about to change into the most magical one imaginable as she readies herself to enter The Witch Avenue Order... that is until her mother’s disappearance. Instead of celebrating her transformation, she finds herself spreading rose petals into her mother’s empty grave.
When Logan, her best friend from junior high, moves back to town for college, he vows to help her find the answers she so desperately seeks surrounding her mother’s disappearance. As they begin uncovering clues, it becomes apparent that the life of white magic they both grew up loving is not what the majority practices, and their lives are in danger.
With a haunting feeling that her mother may still be alive, she begins to hear a call to the wilderness. Triss realizes that in order to find the answers she needs, she must learn the ways of her ancestors and become the hunter, not the hunted before it’s too late, and she becomes part of the lonely souls.

To be honest, at first I thought this series is going to be a very spooky tale just by looking at the cover. Obviously, I was wrong. It wasn't at all scary. Although, I was a little kind of lost at the beginning, trying to find out about the coven like what's its deal? Is it a secret society or something? It took me a while to figure everything out. The romantic scene between Triss and Logan was a little bit annoying to me. Logan was, as it described, very handsome with his dark hair and blue eyes, I couldn't help but swoon. BUT what reaaally bugged me is that the whole book centered around Logan and Triss feelings for each other too much. I wanted adventure. I wanted more spells and details about the witch culture. I wanted something freaking awesome to happen that could set me on edge. I mean, what about her mother? Wasn't looking for her mother the whole point of the story? Sometimes I forgot it that was even the problem. There was moment when she would be like oh, I can't like you, Logan, I have to focus on finding my mother. But I'll keep this feeling anyway and be alone with you because I don't know, it seems right.
I really was annoyed with all of that. Like Triss was fighting with herself all the time, and the story became kind of one-sided. Though I have to admit that the story got a little bit upbeat as I reached the ending. I hope the next book there'd be more action and witch spells and less unnecessary scenes.
All I can say is that this book has lack of intensity and even though I don't really love this book, doesn't mean it's a bad story. I just felt that this book somehow lost its way and its general purpose.

Hi! So there's nothing much going to be around here. I read a lot. I read almost everything that has print on it. Everything from flowery romance to pretentious fiction to poetry. If you came here to stalk on my activities, then you've came to the wrong place. There's a special place for that but I'm not gonna speak of it here. Here is the place where I rant about books (mostly), musics, tv shows, movies, foods, and my personal opinion about all kind of stuff which I would like to share. I don't really share in real life, especially food. But I'll make this an exception (i'll share the pictures of food). So if you don't mind reading my rambles, fair warning; you may not be able to understand a single word I'm going to say because of my overflowing emotions. But just take the chance anyways. Oh this isn't a diary, just so you know.
